ARTIK modules are STATIC-SENSITIVE DEVICES. Make sure you ground yourself and observe proper anti-ESD safeguards when handling modules and development boards.

Check settings

  • Check the BAT – USB – AEM switch and verify that it is in the AEM position.

  • Do not install or connect any battery or the Debug Adapter Board at this time.

Power up the board

  1. Plug the ARTIK 020 or 030 module radio board onto the base board, oriented as shown in the image above.

  2. Attach the USB cable to the base board mini-B receptacle and to your host PC. This connection provides both power and serial communications.

  3. Verify that an intermediate CDC serial port driver install is attempted. You may not see the final driver shown below until after the Silicon Labs software stack is loaded during the Tutorial.

That's all it took! You're ready to go on to load an application.

Instead of communicating over a basic terminal emulator like PuTTY, ARTIK 0 modules talk with the Simplicity Studio® 4.0 integrated development environment. Installation of this software tool is described in the articles below.

Your next stop is the tutorial that best fits your project:

Bluetooth® – ARTIK 020

ZigBee® – ARTIK 030

Thread® – ARTIK 030

ARTIK 020/030 Board Reference

The same base board is used for both the ARTIK 020 and ARTIK 030 development kits. Functionality is determined by the module on the radio board that is attached to the base board.

  • ARTIK 020 module board: Bluetooth radio

  • ARTIK 030 module board: IEEE 802.15.4 standard radio, configurable for either ZigBee or Thread operation.
