ARTIK SDK Update

Once you have installed the ARTIK IDE, it's a simple matter to keep it current with the latest ARTIK Software Development Kit (SDK) releases.

Keeping your ARTIK IDE updated involves two functionalities.

  • Check for Updates: Upgrade to the newest version of ARTIK IDE, collect updates list
  • Package Manager: Install/update SDK packages and toolchains for ARTIK modules

Migrating your projects from an old IDE to a new one? Details are provided here.

When new features and packages are downloaded, you must explicitly call up the Package Manager to actually enable them for use.

Click the tab for ARTIK SDK update instructions for your OS.

Updating ARTIK SDK under Windows

  1. Check for updates by selecting Help » Check for Updates.

  2. When available, you will see an update to the ARTIK IDE features. Walk through that process and click restart when prompted.

If a message comes up immediately that none were found, you may need to click the "available software sites" link in the message, highlight ARTIK IDE Update Site, and click Reload to force a check.

Migrating Projects

If you have projects done under the ARTIK IDE v1.4.2, you can easily migrate them to the new ARTIK IDE 18.05.00.

Migrate project with SDK 1.7.1 from IDE 1.4.2

  1. Export the Exsiting Project from IDE 1.4.2
    1. Right click the created project in IDE 1.4.2 and choose Export…

In this example, the project is named 533s-adc, created by "ARTIK 530s-1G Ubuntu C Project" project wizard using "ARTIK 530s-1G SDK for Ubuntu v1.7.1" and the ADC example.

    2. Select General > File System > Next

    3. Select the project (the .cproject, .project and code & resource files must be selected, and the others are optional), then specify the directory to store the exported project.

  2. Import the Project into IDE 18.05.00
    1. Choose File > Import… > General > Existing Projects into Workspace > Next. Specify the path of the project which is created by IDE 1.4.2 with SDK 1.7.1. Click Finish.

    2. Build the imported project.

Note: For the A05x, since the new SDK adjusts the signature mechanism, the migrated application will print a log message that the signature tool cannot be found when building the project. The message does not affect any features, so you can ignore it.

Migrate project with older SDK (not 1.7.1) from IDE 1.4.2

  1. Export the existing project from IDE 1.4.2 and import it to IDE 18.05.00 as noted above.

  2. Change the SDK to one supported in IDE 18.05.00.
ARTIK IDE 18.05.00 only supports SDK 1.7.1 and 18.05.00. If the imported project is older, the SDK should be modified accordingly.

    1. Select the imported project, then go to the Properties > C/C++ Build > Settings > SDK tab. If the ARTIK SDK is blank, select one. Then click OK.

    2. Verify compatibility.

      • If no issue, the project can be built successfully. The build commands in the Build Console will print the right SDK path.
      • If there is an issue, you will need to deal with it appropriately.

The IDE just ensures that the SDK can be set and its path is right.
